Training Programs
With support from the National Cancer Institute, the Minority Training Program in Cancer Control Research (MTPCCR) was established at the Northern California Cancer Center in 1998 to increase ethnic diversity in the field of cancer control research. The MTPCCR was developed by Dr. Rena Pasick, former Director of Prevention Sciences at NCCC and several other colleagues to encourage underrepresented master's level health science students and graduates of Bay Area academic institutions to pursue a doctoral degree and career in research.
Dr. Pasick and the MTPCCR have relocated to the University of California, San Francisco, but NCCC continues to participate in the program and its internship component. For additional information, visit the MTPCCR Web page at http://cancer.ucsf.edu/mtpccr/index.php. The program is founded on the principle that progress in the field of population health depends upon collaboration and exchange among the social, behavioral and health sciences. The Health & Society Scholars program is focused on behavioral and contextual contributors to health status. Additional information about the program may be found at http://www.ucsf.edu/hss/.
