Living with Cancer

A collection of observations and suggestions for families who live with breast cancer

Cancer affects us all.

This pocket-sized booklet is a collection of observations and suggestions from people who have been personally and intimately affected by cancer — patients, family members, friends, caregivers and health care professionals. We hope it makes you feel less alone in dealing with an illness and a process that can be overwhelming.

One of the most important truths about cancer is that each person’s diagnosis or experience is different. How you use this book depends on how you feel. You may want to dive in or test the water. You may want to read this cover-to-cover, read a single section or pick it up from time to time. You may simply want to pass it along to a friend or family member.

Cancer is a difficult challenge but it is met more easily with good information, caring friends, families and supportive health care providers.

Topics in this guide include:

  • Doctor-Patient Communications
  • Families, Friends and Children
  • Intimacy
  • Nutrition
  • Fear
  • Recurrence
  • Humor and Laughter
  • Support Groups
  • Hospice
  • Complementary and Alternative Medicine
  • Financial and Insurance Issues
  • Information and Resources
