Community Outreach & Education

NCCC is a leader in the development of targeted health education materials. We have extensive experience in creating culturally sensitive and appropriate messages in multiple mediums (written, web-based, conference) for healthcare professionals, lay health workers, large and small groups, and for underserved populations.

Cancer Information Service Partnership Program:  NCCC operates the National Cancer Institute's Cancer Information Service Partnership Program, a training, evaluation, and support program for community-based organizations that target minority and medically underserved populations. The goal of the program is to increase knowledge, change attitudes and behaviors relevant to cancer, and increase management efficiency in these community organizations throughout California.   (Davis, West)

Cancer Detection Programs: Every Woman Counts:  NCCC operates a Consumer 800 Number, providing women of low-income with access to screening and diagnostic services for breast and cervical cancer.  Every Woman Counts responds to 18,000 calls annually in English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, and Vietnamese (Davis). About half of these women are referred for screening.

Community Education Program:  NCCC's comprehensive Community Education Program provides seminars, conferences, educational publications and websites for patients, families, the public and healthcare providers. These programs are tailored to the diverse cultural, ethnic and language needs of San Francisco Bay Area residents. (PriestNaeve)
