Founding Director Emeritus
Dr. Rosenberg provided countless hours in the creation of the Northern California Cancer Center, envisioned as a "cancer center without walls" for the San Francisco Bay Area. His leadership, diplomacy and dedication helped craft a cancer center that is unique in its structure and reach. With his encouragement and enthusiasm, NCCC created partnerships and affiliations with hundreds of universities, hospitals, agencies and community leaders to bring together the talent required to understand cancer. He gave attention to every aspect of this new organization, from governance to programs, from leadership to staff benefits. Dr. Rosenberg served as the first executive director of NCCC from 1974 to 1976 and again from 1983 to 1985. He served on the Board of Trustees for twenty-three years, and was its first chairman. In addition to his dedication to NCCC, Dr. Rosenberg has made exceptional contributions to the field of medicine. He is a world-renowned physician in the treatment of Hodgkin lymphoma, a professor of Medicine and Radiology at Stanford, former Chief of the Division of Medical Oncology at Stanford Medical Center, and a recipient of numerous awards for his research and teaching.
