Cancer incidence trends in Asian subgroups

Cancer incidence trends in Asian subgroups

NCCC Surveillance Researchers, in collaboration with a demographer, developed intra- and extra-censal population estimates for the six largest US Asian subgroups in the Greater Bay Area to facilitate examination of incidence trends in these subgroups over time. Using these data, the group produced a report: "Cancer Incidence among Asians in the Greater Bay Area, 1990-2002." These statistics have been of significant value to public health agencies and other researchers, as population data on specific Asian subgroups are not easily available for non-censal years from any other source. NCCC researchers have produced publications on breast and liver cancer incidence trends among Asian subgroups (Keegan et al., 2007; Chang et al., 2007), and are currently engaged in projects on lung cancer (Keegan, Gomez, Chang, et al., in collaboration with UCSF), lymphomas (Glaser et al.), colorectal cancer (Gomez), and stomach cancer (Pham and Gomez).
