Survival with Hodgkin lymphoma in a multiethnic population: The prognostic value of Epstein-Barr Virus
Survival with Hodgkin lymphoma in a multiethnic population: The prognostic value of Epstein-Barr Virus
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a very common virus that has been linked to some cases of Hodgkin lymphoma. However, little is known about why the virus appears to be involved with this lymphoma in some patients but not others. This study is based on existing cancer registry data from a large number of Hodgkin lymphoma patients diagnosed between 1988 and 1997 in California. It involves testing for the presence of EBV in stored tumor samples from these patients and then determining whether the presence of the virus in Hodgkin lymphoma tumors affects patient survival.
