Cancer survival among Asians and Pacific Islanders

Cancer survival among Asians and Pacific Islanders

Information is limited for Asians and Pacific Islanders (API), particularly for disaggregated subgroups, regarding survival after cancer diagnosis, even as these populations are increasing in the US. To date, studies of racial/ethnic differences in cancer survival have focused on black and white populations. Ongoing research at the NCCC is characterizing survival patterns for specific API subgroups using the population-based SEER and the linked SEER-Medicare databases. We are particularly interested in assessing the extent to which factors such as age, neighborhood-level poverty and education, screening, treatment, and comorbid conditions influence differences in survival across and among Asian subgroups.
